US establishment figure to emerge from Trump ‘side show’

With Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump remaining as the only practical candidates to choose from for the US 2016 presidential election, US voters face the bitter truth about the country’s so-called democracy and an election system that is actually a “complete fraud,” says a Boston-based political commentator.

“There is not democracy in the United States,” Daniel Patrick Welch told Press TV in a Monday interview, referring to remarks by former US President Jimmy Carter as well as research demonstrating the US system as an “oligarchy” instead.

Bogus horse race

“Regular people have absolutely no effect on policy and it is effectively an oligarchy. You see it in everything that’s going around the world (such as) these horrible crimes that are being committed in the name of the American people,” Welch said.

The people, on the other hand, have “no real choice when it comes to voting” in a “broken system.”

“You have this kind of circuit with certain… oligarchic paternalism, and vetted candidates chosen by the oligarchs, who are then carefully selected to run in this kind of bogus horse race or a popularity contest against each other so that it looks like real democracy.”

The only alternative

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton speaks with voters at the Mug and Muffin Cafe on May 9, 2016 in Stone Ridge, Virginia.

Out of the presidential hopefuls of the Republican Party, only Trump has been left, making him the presumptive nominee of the GOP despite his unfavorability among myriad senior conservatives, including former candidates Jeb Bush and Lindsey Graham who have refused to endorse him.

Meanwhile, on the Democratic side, Clinton enjoys a lead over Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and is perceived by many as the final nominee.

“This year it was this fake set-up between a Bush and a Clinton to continue this dynasty,” said the analyst, adding that the idea was disrupted by “the Trump phenomenon.”

“But the Trump phenomenon is also pleasing… because by having Trump, a side show that’s really cartoon of a candidate, it makes it more likely that Hillary Clinton, the real establishment candidate, will be chosen in this sham of a democracy.”

US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump addresses the audience in Eugene, Oregon on Friday May 6, 2016.

With Trump being this “evil and awful,” Welch noted that the only alternative for a voter is the former secretary of state, who is herself yet another “despised” figure from the establishment and a “shield’ for US corporations who also has a “proven record of mass murder.”

The case could also reverse as “what Clinton has going for her is she is not Trump (and) what Trump has going for him is that he is not Clinton, which could backfire on the elite.”

“There is not a dime's worth of difference,” Welch concluded.
