Tennis and World Number One Novak Djokovic has downed defending champion Andy Murray 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in the Madrid Open final, winning a record 29th career Masters title.

The Serbian ace dominated the first set but it was even from then until the end, with both players failing on decisive moments. The Scot showed off some promise at some points but just not enough to make a huge difference.

The match reached its climax when Murray sent a forehand into the net, giving Djokovic his 15th straight win against a top-10 opponent, a streak in which he has lost only two of 35 sets.

It was Djokovic's second title in Madrid, and fifth of the year this season. The defeat means the 28-year-old Scot gives up his World Number 2 ranking to Roger Federer on Monday.
