If you happen to be in New York City over the next several weekends, be sure to look up in the sky during sunsets. Thousands of pigeons are illuminating the city’s night sky in an unusual art project.

LED light bands have been attached to the legs of these pigeons. And at the call of a whistle, the massive flock take off and soar in the skies by creating a massive light show.

The birds come in various colors, some in silver heads, others with black stripes. They're part of a project called “Fly by night”.

That's the brainchild of a Ukrainian artist who wants to pay homage to the birds that are a common sight in this city.
