Clinton is a reasonable alternative to Trump for the GOP: Activist

“In so many ways, Hillary Clinton would be the GOP’s choice, as even the Koch brothers confided that she’s OK with them," American activist Myles Hoenig says.

Hillary Clinton would be a better fit for US Republicans as their presidential choice because her foreign policy and war mongering go beyond former President George W. Bush's, according to an American political analyst and activist.

Myles Hoenig told Press TV on Thursday that Charles and David Koch, two of the US Republican Party’s biggest donors, have approved the candidacy of Clinton, so she should also be acceptable to the GOP.

The Koch brothers, who wield significant financial and political influence on US politics, oppose the candidacy of Donald Trump.

On Wednesday, US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he is committed to supporting Trump's presidential bid and called on fellow Republicans to do the same.

The top Republican in the Senate publicly endorsed Trump's candidacy to prevent what would be in effect “a third term of Barack Obama,” referring to Obama’s former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who is on the path to win the Democratic nomination unless something untoward happens.

“How ironic it is that the Republicans want to prevent a third Obama administration when we can say that we’re actually in Ronald Reagan’s ninth term right now,” said Hoenig.

“So much of our economic and foreign policy is straight out of right-wing think tanks and out of the heads of conservative policy wonks. ACA, the Affordable Care Act, for example, is a re-do of a Heritage Foundation program for health insurance reform that Mitt Romney adopted as governor of Massachusetts,” the activist said.

“The Republican leadership did all they could to derail every effort or policy that Obama tried to initiate. So much of what Obama did was an extension of President Bush’s policies, and often he seemed like Bush on steroids,” he stated.

“It’s easy to make the case that they acted this way simply because Obama was the first African-American president,” the analyst noted.

“Another piece of irony is that the Republicans don’t really know what Trump would do as president. He has never had any kind of political leadership roles. He has made public statements in the past that clearly identify himself as a moderate Democrat, including supporting Single Payer and ending wars,” he said.

“In so many ways, Hillary Clinton would be the GOP’s choice, as even the Koch brothers confided that she’s OK with them. Clinton’s foreign policy and war mongering even went further than Bush’s or Obama’s,” the commentator said.

“This normally falls within the Republican domain but even they have problems with foreign entanglements. But if it’s to defend America’s honor or promote its view of ‘exceptionalism’, the Republicans can’t pick up a gun fast enough, and give it to the poor to do the fighting. But one doesn’t have to be a Republican to wage war for others to fight,” Hoenig said in his concluding remarks.
