Clinton/Sanders to be president if Trump nominated: Obama

US President Barack Obama

US President Barack Obama says announcing Donald Trump as the GOP’s nominee in July will “ultimately” give the White House to either Hilary Clinton or Bernie Sanders.

In an interview with WMUR, a local television station in the US state of New Hampshire, Obama said late Monday that Trump is not yet ready to serve as the country’s commander-in-chief.

“I think that he is not somebody who, even within the Republican Party, can be considered as equipped to deal with the problems of this office," said the president.

"If, in fact, the Republicans nominate Mr. Trump, then it’s going to be an interesting fall season," he noted. "I’m confident that ultimately the Democrat in that circumstance will win.”

Obama, a Democrat himself, has appeared as a vocal critic of the billionaire real estate mogul in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election along with many others even from Republican Party.

Last time, the president targeted Trump during his Saturday speech at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.

“Is this dinner too tacky for the Donald? What could he possibly be doing instead? Is he at home eating a Trump steak? Tweeting out insults to Angela Merkel? What’s he doing?" Obama asked.

Despite all the attacks on Trump for his hate speech, the front runner has been marching towards nomination of the GOP, which will be finalized in the 2016 Republican National Convention, set to be held in Cleveland, Ohio at the Quicken Loans Arena from July 18 to 21.
