Da Vinci painted Mona Lisa using two models: art detective

"Mona Lisa" by Leonardo da Vinci

There’s perhaps no one in the world who doesn’t know the famous painting of the smiling lady with her hands gently placed on each other. For many years people have been wondering, how Leonardo da Vinci created the mysterious “Mona Lisa”. Now an art detective has made some interesting discoveries.

Silvano Vinceti, an Italian art detective, believes the artist has used both a man and a woman as models of his masterpiece. Before, it was believed that the painting was a portrait of a lady from Florence known as Lisa Gherardini, whose merchant husband had requested the painting.

The Italian detective using infrared technology to go through the layers of the painting says the first sketch was gloomy and sad, and the smile was added later.
