Saudi jets keep striking Yemen despite peace talks

Here is a round-up of global news developments:

• President Rouhani has described Iran as the standard-bearer of the fight against terrorism. He says Daesh terrorists would have taken over Damascus and Baghdad if Iran had not been around. Rouhani says Iran is the torch-bearer of the idea of a World Against Violence and Extremism (WAVE).
   
• With Yemen peace talks underway in Kuwait, Saudi warplanes continue to target the war-torn country. In their latest attack, Saudi jets carried out three airstrikes on the southern province of Ta'izz. Earlier, at least four Yemenis, including a child were killed in Bayda province.
   
• A truce signed by the Syrian government and Kurdish officials holds in the northeastern city of Qamishli, as the two sides are to resume talks to end days of deadly clashes. The two sides have in the past had security coordination against Daesh terrorists in Qamishli.
   
• German Chancellor Angela Merkel and top EU officials are due in Turkey to promote a controversial refugee deal. Merkel along with European Council President, Donald Tusk, and the EU Commission Vice President, will meet Turkish Prime Minister, Ahmet Davutoglu at a refugee camp on the Syrian border.
   
• US President Barack Obama’s controversial intervention into Britain’s EU referendum debate has sparked outrage amongst leading Brexit campaigners. They say Obama’s pro-EU stance is an attack on British democracy and sovereignty. London Mayor Boris Johnson and UK Justice Minister, Dominic Raab were among those who criticized Obama.
   
• French police clash with protesters angry with the government’s proposed labor reforms. Police used tear gas to disperse the demonstrators. A police vehicle was torched during the clashes and 12 protesters were detained. Opponents say the new reforms will worsen the working conditions and increase the unemployment rate.
   
• Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff warns she may appeal to a regional trade bloc if she is removed from office. Rousseff said the Mercosur, trade bloc of South American nations can suspend Brazil if its democratic process is broken. She has called the impeachment bid against her a political coup by rivals.
   
• Two shooting incidents in the northeastern US state of Georgia claim the lives of five people. Three of the victims were shot in one location and two others were killed about a mile away in the city of Appling. Police have linked the two shootings saying the gunman is still at large.
