Doha meeting on oil freeze ended without any agreement

  • A meeting between major oil producing countries in the Qatari capital Doha on a deal to cap production has ended without an agreement. The event was attended by OPEC and non-OPEC producers. Iran did not take part, insisting that it will not freeze its production rate until it reaches the pre-sanctions level.
  • Foreign-backed militants have launched new attacks on the northern Syrian city of Aleppo. The attacks including mortar and sniper fire have killed at least eleven civilians and wounded many more. The government has repeatedly accused the Saudi-backed militants of violating the United Nations-backed truce.
  • Representatives of Yemeni tribes have gathered in the capital Sana’a to condemn Saudi Arabia’s war on the country. They pledged to protect the capital against falling to the hands of Saudi forces despite a spike in deadly airstrikes. U-N-brokered Yemen peace talks are due to be held in Kuwait on Monday.
  • People in the besieged Gaza Strip stage a rally on the 42nd anniversary of Palestinian Prisoners’ Day in solidarity with Palestinians held in Israeli jails. The Protesters stressed the necessity of joining the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against Israel and its products.
  • Iraqis have staged a new sit-in protest in the capital Baghdad, calling for reforms. The sit-in was held a day after Parliament failed to choose a replacement for the speaker. Following the parliamentary session, prominent Shia cleric Moqtada al-Sadr set a Tuesday deadline for a cabinet change.
  • Brazilian lawmakers have begun discussing whether to authorize the impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff on charges of manipulating budgetary accounts.The lower house of Congress will later vote on the impeachment. Latest estimates in major Brazilian newspapers show that pro-impeachment deputies in the house would succeed.
  • The death toll from a magnitude seven-point-eight quake that struck Ecuador’s Pacific coast has risen to two-hundred-thirty-eight. Authorities say more than 15-hundred people are injured. Rescuers are searching for survivors in shattered coastal towns. Ecuador’s strongest earthquake in decades lasted about a minute and was felt across the country.
  • Thousands of Belgians have taken part in a march to honor the victims of last month’s terrorist attacks in Brussels. The event, called “March against terror and hate”, was organized by civil groups. Thirty-two people were killed in the March 22 bomb attacks.
