Detroit Zoo has constructed the world’s largest habitat for penguins. The facility provides the aquatic birds with new rocks for climbing, waves, snow, and better ice conditions, while allowing visitors to watch the creatures as closely as possible.
There are a total of 83 penguins from four different species in an area of about 3000 square-meters.
The 30 million dollars habitat, called the Polk Penguin Conservation Center, has been designed to simulate the harsh climate of Antarctica.
Its deep spacious swimming pool enables the penguins to dive deep and be happy. It has an exterior that resembles a towering iceberg with a crevasse and waterfall.
