Junior Iranian chess player Artin Ashraf has displayed commendable performances at Asian Youth Chess Championship 2016 in Mongolia, and claimed the top position in the sporting event.

The Iranian prodigy participated in the boy’s U8 rapid-play contests at the Cultural Palace of Mongolian Trade Unions in Ulaanbaatar on Sunday, and lifted the trophy with a score of 6.5 points.

The achievement came only a day after Mehdi Gholami Ourimi overcame his rivals as he progressed to the final competition in the boy’s U14 blitz section, and finished vice champion to receive the silver medal.

Nima Fenderesky and Mersad Khodashenas also claimed the bronze medal in the U16 and U18 sections respectively.

Mobina Alinasab also snatched a silver medal in the girl’s G16 division.

The Asian Youth Chess Championship 2016 opened in Ulaanbaatar on April 6, and will conclude on April 14.

Iran has dispatched a 13-strong delegation to the event.
