Kashmir elects first female chief minister

The Indian-controlled Kashmir has elected Mehbooba Mufti as the region’s chief minister.

The Indian-controlled Kashmir has elected Mehbooba Mufti of the pro-India Peoples Democratic Party as the region’s chief minister. Mufti is the first woman to be elected to the top post. She took the oath of office after her PDP party and the Hindu nationalist BJP party ended a political deadlock by forming a coalition government. Our correspondent Shahana Butt has more in this report.
