US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has urged Ohio Governor John Kasich to drop out of the GOP nominating contest, accusing him of taking away potential Trump voters.

Trump also told reporters on Sunday that he expressed his displeasure while meeting with Republican National Committee officials last week.

“All he’s doing is just, he goes from place to place, and loses, and he keeps running. Well, why doesn’t Marco Rubio do that? Why doesn’t Jeb Bush do that? Why didn’t all of them do that?” Trump told reporters.

Recent polls have shown the billionaire businessman trailing US Senator Ted Cruz by huge margins in Wisconsin, which holds its primary on Tuesday.

“He’ taking my votes,” Trump said about Kasich. “He’s not taking Cruz’s votes. He’s taking my votes,” Trump said.

Kasich has no mathematical path to an outright primary victory, as he is too far behind in the delegate count to cross the 1,237-delegate threshold for securing the party’s nomination outright.

His only hope of winning the nomination is if he emerges as a consensus candidate in a contested convention.

Observers say that Trump may finish about 80 delegates short of the absolute majority, meaning that the Republican National Convention in July will start without a presumptive nominee.

Trump has propelled himself as the GOP frontrunner by framing himself as an anti-establishment outsider.

However, his campaign has been defined by controversy from the beginning, including disparaging remarks about women, immigrants and Muslims.
