US Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz has criticized the Obama administration over its “weak” foreign policy, and vowed to “utterly and completely destroy” Daesh (ISIL) terrorists if he became the president.

"Enough is enough," Cruz declared in an interview with Fox News on Sunday. "We need a commander in chief who will keep this country safe."

Cruz, who is currently second behind Donald Trump in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, said the administration of President Barack Obama has embraced policies that "make no sense."

"We need a commander in chief that is focused on defeating radical Islamic terrorism [sic], utterly destroying ISIS [Daesh] and on keeping America safe," he said.

"If I'm president, we will utterly and completely destroy ISIS," the Texas senator said, referring to the Daesh Takfiri group, which was created and funded by the US and its regional allies.

In the wake of the deadly terrorist attacks in Brussels on March 22, Cruz proposed more resources for US police to "patrol and secure Muslim neighborhoods before they become radicalized."

Next day, Cruz doubled down on his call for authorities to monitor American Muslims, despite criticism from top law enforcement officials.

The twin blasts at Brussels Airport and another at a metro station close to the European Union headquarters in the Belgian capital left at least 31 people dead and 250 others wounded. Daesh has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Obama blasted Cruz for making an outrageous suggestion, and pointed out his Cuban heritage, arguing that he is ignoring the journey of his father, who fled Cuba to escape political oppression.

In response, Cruz slammed the Obama administration over its policy of “appeasement” and not calling Takfiri terrorism "radical Islamic terrorism."

"The Obama-Clinton foreign policy is a manifest disaster," he said. "Every single region on Earth has gotten worse....and we've shown weakness and appeasement to our enemies.”

"Obama and Hilary [Clinton] seem more mad at me than they are at ISIS, than they are at the terrorists who are murdering us," he said.

"This policy of weakness and appeasement doesn't work," he said. "I think the American people are tired of it."

The Daesh Takfiri group, which was created and funded by the US and its regional allies to destabilize the Middle East region, particularly Syria, now controls large parts of Iraq and Syria.

They have been carrying out horrific acts of violence such as public decapitations and crucifixions against all communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Izadi Kurds, and Christians, in the areas under their control.
