The Bulgarian government has angrily dismissed a warning by the US embassy to American citizens to avoid a busy transport center in the capital Sofia over a potential terror threat.

On Thursday, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov stressed that no credible threat was present at the Hotel Pliska area and that residents and tourists were not in danger.

The US embassy on Wednesday posted a statement on social media saying that it had obtained information pertaining to a "possible threat against an unspecified bus line or bus lines” in the busy area in the capital.

"The way US diplomats disclosed the information, obtained from their Bulgarian counterparts, is absolutely inadmissible and improper," said Borisov.

He further noted that “the state investigates any indication of a threat to citizens and would not withhold such a thing from the public if there was the slightest danger to life and limb."

The US warning, which was withdrawn shortly after its issue, came just two days after a series of attacks claimed by the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group in the Belgian capital, Brussels, left at least 31 people dead and over 250 others wounded.

On Tuesday, two explosions ripped through the international departure hall of the airport in Zaventem. One blast hit near the American Airlines check-in desk and the other one near a coffee shop.

An hour after the airport bombings, another bomb went off at Maelbeek metro station, 10 kilometers away, and close to European Union buildings.

Belgium is observing three days of mourning over the carnage. A minute of silence was also observed for the victims on Thursday

Meanwhile, speaking to the country's federal and regional parliaments on the third and final day of mourning, Premier Michel said "the government and the authorities in charge will do absolutely everything to shed light on the attacks."

The bombings in Brussels have also led to intensified security measures elsewhere across Europe.

A number of intelligence officials have said that Daesh has a network of semi-autonomous interlocking terror cells comprised of more than 400 Takfiri terrorists trained and prepared to target European cities.
