Israel does not know what to do with Intifada: Pundit

Press TV has interviewed with Saeed Nimer, professor of Political Science at the Birzeit University from Ramallah, about the Israeli regime’s pressure on the French satellite operator Eutelsat to stop broadcasting the Palestinian al-Aqsa TV.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: What exactly is going on? We saw the desperation on the part of the Israelis and now we see the French satellite provider taking al-Aqsa TV off its platform? What do you see exactly behind all of this?

Nimer: First of all, it’s a huge indication that Israelis do not really know what they are going to do in front of the continuing Palestinian Intifada. They are trying every trick in their bag, but it didn’t work with them.

A few months ago they closed two radio/TV stations – local ones – in Hebron (al-Khalil) and now they are attacking the Voice of Palestine and al-Quds stations also in Ramallah.

It’s quite obvious that they want to shut up the Palestinian [freedom] of speech, of expressing themselves, and especially Palestine to covering minute-by-minute the events going on on the streets in Palestine.

And the Israelis consider it as this is aggregating the Intifada, but as a matter of fact they are trying to be just as honest and accurate in delivering the news regarding what’s going on in the West Bank minute-by-minute and the same with al-Quds, but there are two differences here.

With Palestine Today the attack was at the offices in Ramallah and they raided them and they arrested the workers there and they closed the offices, while the big development is al-Quds station, while they are pressurizing apparently the French government and the French authority to stop the broadcast of al-Quds.

And this is, I think, it’s a very dangerous indication of where the Israeli government is going in suppressing the Palestinians not only in the streets and the cities and the villages and refugee camps, but also the voice of the Palestinians which at least that was the only thing that the Palestinians could express themselves through in regarding the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people. This is mainly what happened in the last two days.
