Two teenage girls in France have been charged with allegedly plotting a terrorist attack at a concert hall in the capital, Paris.

The girls, aged 15 and 17, appeared before an anti-terror judge on Friday.

Police said the girls had been exchanging messages on Facebook about the planned assault.

Counter-terrorism agents arrested the pair on Wednesday along with two others who had joined the conversation.

The 15-year-old defendant will reportedly remain in custody, while her 17-year-old friend will be released under judicial supervision, the Paris prosecutor's office said. The two others were released after being questioned.

Prosecutors said the alleged plan had been in the preliminary stage and that neither weapons nor explosive substances had been discovered.

France has been on high alert since last November attacks that shocked Paris. A total of 130 people were killed as assailants attacked several venues, including a concert hall, restaurants and a football stadium, within a matter of hours.

The attacks were claimed by the Daesh Takfiri group mainly operating in Iraq and Syria.

The attacks in Paris are believed to have been carried out by European nationals who had joined Daesh in Syria and Iraq.
