Ahmadi atop 10m air rifle women world shooting podium

Iranian female sports shooter Elaheh Ahmadi has been named the world’s best athlete of the 10-meter air rifle women division in the March edition of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) rankings.

According to the latest monthly rankings released by the ISSF, the governing body of the Olympic Shooting events in Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun disciplines, and of several non-Olympic Shooting sport tournaments, the 33-year-old Iranian sportswoman gained 1,176 points to be named the world’s champion.

China’s Yi Siling got 1,065 points to claim the second spot. Zhang Binbin, another representative from China, stood third with 819 points, and fourth-place Serbian female sports shooter Andrea Arsovic accumulated 769 points.

On September 9, 2015, Ahmadi scored 207.5 points at 10m air rifle women event at the 2015 ISSF World Cup Final in Munich, Germany, and snatched the gold medal.

She finished atop of the podium after a neck-and-neck competition against India’s Apurvi Chandela, who finished with 206.9 points.

The Iranian sportswoman notched up 207.8 points in the P2 (women’s 10m air pistol) contests of the ISSF World Cup 2015 Rifle / Pistol / Shotgun tournament at the Gabala Shooting Club in the northern Azerbaijani city of Gabala on August 10 to top the podium, and earn a spot in the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Chinese competitor Zhang Binbin finished second with 207.4 points and claimed a silver medal. Iran’s 19-year-old female prodigy Najmeh Khedmati collected 185.5 points to pick up the bronze.
