The Catalan regional government has abandoned plans to create a Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This, after the Spanish Constitutional Court ordered the suspension of the powers of the future ministry. The Catalan government of Carles Puigdemont downplayed the decision to bow to the court order, describing it as a preemptive act to avoid the Spanish “legalsophistry”. It also pledged to continue foreign action to promote the Catalan cause abroad. Our correspondent Kusai Kedri has more from Barcelona.
