US policies root cause of refugee crisis in Europe: Pundit

Press TV has conducted an interview with Boris Malagurski, a political analyst and documentary maker from Belgrade, to discuss how violent the Europeans treat refugees.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: We looked at some scenes that were coming out from that border area that was quite violent, why are they’ve been treated so violently these refugees, who have nothing but their backpack and obviously fleeing some of the wars that are basically Western-led wars?

Malagurski: Yeah, well when you consider that Greek authorities have been pushing the migrants towards specific route, discouraging them from continuing to another EU country such as Bulgaria by land or Italy by sea and concerning the fact that Macedonia and Serbia have been largely left alone to deal with this crisis, it seems that the scenes of violence are certainly inevitable.

It’s unfortunate but unlike Macedonia, you look at Serbia, which has shown nothing but kindness and compassion towards refugees and migrants crossing their country, but the EU has met this compassion with a big wall on the Serbian-Hungarian border.

These two countries are getting increasingly nervous as it does seem that the EU is looking how to isolate themselves from the Balkans instead of tackling the root causes of these issues.

Press TV: And one of the root causes of these issues is the fact of how to handle it and basically that comes to who’s incorporating their borders to be open and mostly doing the opposite. Is there clear-cut rule right now or consensus of how many refugees need to be taken in in order for everybody to share their piece of pie on this?

Malagurski: Well, the estimates are the situation could get worse, but the chaotic scenes on the border between Macedonia and Greece are evidence that migrant crisis is completely out of control of Europe and it is essentially direct blowback from the US and its allies’ regime change operations in Libya and Syria.

Much of Western Europe is behind the US and its Middle East policies. Even though, anyway Europe’s pain is America’s gain. I believe that the United States created the refugee crisis on purpose to weaken Europe, which is already suffering from economic woes, but specially to weaken the Balkans.

Serbia and Macedonia, which are smack dab in the middle of the whole refugee crisis and the main migrant route into Western Europe are specially prone to destabilization. These are countries where are not very well off economically. The countries have a geo-strategic importance. Part of this importance relates to the geo-political side of story.

Balkans are perfect backdoor to the EU, and another part relates to energy, destabilizing Russian energy-friendly governments of Macedonia and Serbia to sabotage the Balkan stream.

When you look at the bigger picture, the US has very real strategic reasons why it wants to destroy the Balkans if it can fully control them. Remember these are countries happened to be the ones, which refused US and EU pressures on sanctioning Russia. Their symbolic actions signify the rejection of US unipolarity and accordingly the US has targeted them for immediate destabilization response.
