Asian Volleyball Confederation picks five Iranian for various committees

The Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) has elected five Iranian sports officials as new members of different committees at the continental governing body in Asia and Oceania.

Ghaffar Derakhshandeh, the director of international events at the Islamic Republic of Iran Volleyball Federation (IRIVF), joined representatives from South Korea, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Qatar, Uzbekistan, Japan, China and Australia, as a member of the AVC Sports Events Council.

Abdul Azim Azizkhani was also elected to the Beach Volley Council; and Secretary General of the IRIVF Mahmoud Afshardoost, together with his South Korean, Bahraini, Saudi, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Australian and Omani counterparts, formed the Coaches Committee.

Moreover, Ramin Tabatabaei was named to the Medical Committee, and Maryam Hesabi joined colleagues from Thailand, China, Australia, South Korea and Iraq in the Media Committee.

The AVC was established on May 6, 1952, and has developed into one of the largest continental volleyball associations in the world ever since. The number of its member federations has increased to 65 from only 12 at the time of its foundation. Saleh Bin Nasser is the current president of the federation.
