West waging war to mask economic failure: Analyst

Press TV has conducted an interview with Mike Harris, a political analyst, about Western reaction to a Russian proposal for an end to Turkish military assaults in Syria.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: There is nothing in Russia’s draft that would be against international law. On the contrary, it is aimed at bolstering it. Isn’t it by itself embarrassing that any member of the Security Council should come out and speak against a resolution that in essence is aimed at protecting the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of another country?

Harris: Absolutely. But please understand that the “civil war” in Syria has been orchestrated by the very same Western powers, the NATO powers, Turkey, Saudi Arabia included, Israel included. They have orchestrated this civil war in Syria. They’re the ones who created it. They’re the ones who have been providing material support for ISIS, Daesh and al-Nusra. They’re the ones who fabricated this whole thing. There was nothing there before this. This is entirely a creation of the NATO powers. That’s who did it, that’s who’s responsible for this.

And you have to understand that the Western economies, the economy of the US, the economy of the EU, the economy of all of the Western powers, is in the tank. If you look at the Baltic Dry Index, shipping is down to a 27-year low; the price of oil is under 30 dollars a barrel. The big banks, which control the money, which is a really transnational, trans-generational crime organization, they’re on the verge of bankruptcy, they’re failing. They desperately want a war. Desperately want a war. And they want to have a war with Russia. They want to have a war with the secular Muslim states. That’s the bottom line. They need a war to pull their failed financial policies out of the fire.

Press TV: And of course, so what would be the legal and political consequences of both the approval and rejection of this draft resolution?

Harris: Well, if it’s approved, then there is pathway for cooler heads to prevail. The Russians have been very very modest in their actions. They’ve been very restrained. They have not taken the bait. They have not escalated this. They’re merely doing what they have to do to crush the mercenary forces that are inside Syria.

If it’s rejected and Turkey prevails and the NATO forces prevail, then, we’re going to look at this war widening and engulfing the entire region.

Press TV: And finally, do you see a trend in the behavior shown and statements made by some UN Security Council member states indicating their willingness to escalate the situation in Syria? I mean, after all, the same states are now accusing Moscow of just doing that.

Harris: Absolutely, because as I stated, NATO has really become a criminal organization. Let’s call it what it is. What they did in Libya unprovoked to the Qaddafi regime… what they’re doing to the Assad regime in Syria… They’re out of control. They desperately want a war and this is all based on their failing economies. They have, you know, bet the farm on their economic policies, which have failed and they’re bankrupting themselves. And they need a war to mask their mal-management of the economies of the West.
