Trump attacks RNC for its ‘disgrace’ in last debate
GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump has called the Republican National Committee a “disgrace” after being booed in the latest Republican debate.
He made the remarks on Monday in South Carolina, where the next primary is set to be held in less than a week.
Trump referred to the last GOP debate in New Hampshire, in which he was booed, saying, “The whole room was made up of special interest donors and donors, which is a disgrace for the RNC.”
"The RNC better get its act together because you know, I signed a pledge, but the pledge isn't being honored by them," he said. “The RNC does a terrible job… I signed a pledge, but it’s a double-edge pledge and as far as I’m concerned they’re in default of the pledge.”
The billionaire real estate mogul has previously asserted that he would run as an independent instead of a Republican if necessary.
An RNC spokesman told the Guardian that the pledge “simply states the candidates pledge to run as a Republican and support the nominee. Nothing more and nothing less.”
“Each candidate received 100 tickets which is the largest amount so far. The candidates as a whole were the largest group of ticket holders,” said the spokesman, adding that “The language of the pledge is pretty straightforward.”
Trump also called his rival, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, “a totally unstable individual,” “a basket case,” and “unhinged,” threatening the Canadian-born with legal action.
“One of the ways I can fight back is to bring a lawsuit against him relative to the fact that he was born in Canada and therefore cannot be president,” read a statement released by Trump’s campaign, adding, that the senator “is lying with the hopes that his statements will go unchecked until after the election and he will save his failing campaign.”
