Turkey waging terror war against Syria: Analyst
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s policies toward Syria and Iraq puts Ankara on the verge of a military confrontation with the two countries, says Stephen Lendman, an American author and radio host.
Erdogan says the United States is creating a “pool of blood” in the region by its support of the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) and its military wing, People’s Protection Units (YPG).
“Hey America! We know these [organizations] very well. But as you have never recognized them (as terror groups) the region has turned into a pool of blood,” Erdogan said on Wednesday, in one of his regular speeches to provincial officials at the Presidential Complex in Ankara.
A day earlier, Ankara summoned the US envoy to Turkey, John Bass, to protest against the remarks by US State Department spokesman John Kirby, who has said that Washington does not see the PYD as a terrorist organization.
In an interview with Press TV on Thursday, Lendman criticized Erdogan’s role in the escalation of Middle Eastern conflicts, blaming his anti-Syria policies as one reason.
“Erdogan is waging a terror war in Syria,” Lendman said. “He wants Syria destroyed.”
The analyst also raised the possibility of a military confrontation between Iraq and Turkey in the near future because of Ankara’s violation of Iraqi borders.
“Turkey is creating a bloodbath and America of course is creating a bloodbath against Iraq, against Libya, against Syria, and Turkey is complicit in all of this, along with other key NATO members,” and some Arab states, Lendman added.
The Chicago-based author added that Russian President Vladimir Putin deserves a peace prize for his military campaign against Daesh positions in Syria, started since late September upon a request by the Damascus government.
