Brain works differently in winter than summer

Brain activity related to attention and concentration peaks during the summer and slumps to a low on the shortest day of the year.

Belgian scientists say human brain activity varies from season to season.

When the researchers asked a group of people to do certain cognitive tasks in different seasons, it turned out that the brain activity for the very same task changed.

The tests included the ability to stay focused and to store, update and compare information in their memories. For example, the level of brain activity in June was at its peak while hitting its lowest level in December.

An increase in calorie consumption as well as impacts of seasonal affective disorder is among the reasons for such a change.
