Press TV has conducted an interview with Ramin Vahidzadeh, a political commentator from Tehran, on the presence of Spain’s princess Cristina in court for corruption charges.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: The last line of the news item stated that this is the first time in modern times that a member of the Spanish royal family goes on trial, how significant is this corruption scandal case?

Vahidzadeh: Talking about being the first time, it’s very significant, because before this, all of the allegations against the royal family were somehow rejected by Spanish courts to be dealt with such as the case which one of Belgium nationalities alleging that the former king Juan Carlos was actually his father and he was conceived illegally.

But this is the first time and we are seeing that though they intended to somehow put aside these allegations against Cristina de Borbon, it has been failed and it’s very significant to see one of the royal family here on the seat of this court between other 70 persons.

In that case, we are seeing that were former officials after ruling party, popular party.

Press TV: Mr. Vahidzadeh, could this be just a tip of the iceberg?

Vahidzadeh: Yes, in fact it is. Although the vote on this case may be an eight-year sentence for Cristina de Borbon, it’s very significant.

Now, we are seeing in the political scene some emerging parties like Podemos, which are going for the abolition of the monarchy.

And by these cases that we are seeing right now, it may be the point of iceberg for that also.
