On the eve of the New Hampshire primary, US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has widened his lead over the crowded GOP field.

A new Emerson College poll, released on Monday night, found that Trump leads the Republican field with 31 percent.

Trump, the frontrunner Republican candidate, was beaten by Senator Ted Cruz won in last week’s Iowa caucuses.

Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, who did not fare well in Iowa, made gains in the new poll.  He finished in second place at 16 percent, but his next three GOP rivals trail closely behind him.

Ohio Governor John Kasich has 13 percent support of likely Republican voters, Senator Marco Rubio has 12 percent, and Senator Ted Cruz has 11 percent.

The poll was conducted from Thursday to Sunday. It showed a shift in the race as Bush saw a rise on Sunday and Rubio sank in the wake of this Saturday’s GOP debate.

Rubio emerged as an establishment favorite after a strong showing in Iowa, where he finished in third place with 23.1 percent, but his opponents attacked him on Saturday and exposed his lack of experience.

Trump received 24.3 percent of the vote in Iowa, but did not accept his defeat and claimed that the election was stolen from him by Cruz. He accused Cruz of “voter fraud.”
