The entire four-member crew of a Russian military helicopter has been killed in a crash in the country’s western Pskov region.

The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that the Mi-8 helicopter went down on Monday during a training mission in the Pskov region, about 600 kilometers (370 miles) northwest of the capital Moscow.

"The rescue team that reached the crash site reported the death of three pilots and a technician," the statement said.

A probe has been launched into the crash, with investigators trying to determine what caused the incident.

The Mi-8, designed in the 1960s, is widely used to carry people and cargo to far-flung areas of Russia. In June 2014, 15 people were killed when a Mi-8 helicopter crashed into a lake in the northwestern Murmansk region.
