At least one policeman was killed and eight other people were injured in a roadside bomb explosion Sunday in Afghanistan's eastern province of Logar.

A vehicle transporting provincial court staff toward their office in the provincial capital of Pul-i-Alam hit the bomb, a local official said, adding that an investigation has been launched into the incident.

The wounded included Haqiq-ur-Rahmand Haqmal, the head of the provincial court department, three local judges and four civilian passers-by, the official said.

The Taliban militant group has claimed responsibility for the blast.

Afghanistan is gripped by insecurity over 14 years after the United States and its allies invaded the country as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror. The 2001 attack overthrew the Taliban, but many areas across Afghanistan still face violence and insecurity.
