Several people suspected of having links to the Daesh Takfiri militant group have been arrested in Rwanda.

The people were taken into custody on Saturday, less than a week after police detained a preacher in the capital, Kigali, for allegedly encouraging youths to join the terrorist group.

Police said that they managed to identify the suspects after evidence obtained following the detention of Muhammad Mugemangango, a deputy imam at Kimironko Mosque in Kigali, showed that the group aimed to recruit new Daesh members.

On Monday, police detained Mugemangango, accusing him of recruiting for Daesh. He was shot and killed by police while attempting to escape custody.

Police did not give more details on the exact number of people arrested, but said some of the suspects they had been pursuing had fled the country.

Police also seized suspects’ preaching materials, including books, CDs and social network messages.

The Daesh terrorist group is wreaking havoc in several countries, mainly Iraq and Syria.

The terrorist group has been carrying out gruesome acts, including destruction of heritage sites, public decapitations and crucifixions against many members of all communities and ethnic backgrounds, including Arabs, Kurds, Muslims and Christians in areas they have seized in both Syria and Iraq.
