World leaders hail Iran nuclear deal

A combo image of some of the officials who commented on the implementation of Iran’s historic nuclear deal with world powers.

Here is a round-up of global news developments:

  • Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani says everybody’s happy with the implementation of the nuclear deal except the Zionists, warmongers, and US hardliners. Rouhani said the deal has opened a new chapter in Tehran's relations with the world. He added the deal is a result of Iran’s insistence on negotiation rather than confrontation.

  • Russia says the success of the nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1 countries will help boost international security, especially in the Middle East. Earlier, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has hailed the nuclear deal as a milestone. Germany, France and Britain have also welcomed the implementation of the agreement.

  • Persian Gulf stock markets have plunged over falling oil prices. Saudi shares were traded 6.5 percent down while share prices in Qatar and Dubai tumbled six percent at the opening. The falling prices are due to the persistent oversupply of oil and the return of Iran to the international oil market.

  • Reports say Somalia has received a pledge of 50 million dollars from Saudi Arabia over its decision to cut ties with Iran. Riyadh has reportedly promised 20 million dollars in budget support and another 30 million dollars as investment in Somalia. The pledge was made on the day Mogadishu severed ties with Tehran.

  • Daesh terrorists have reportedly killed at least 300 civilians during an attack to capture more areas in the eastern Syrian city of Dayr al-Zawr. They've also abducted 400 people, among them women and children. Meanwhile, the UN has warned of severe food shortage in Dayr al-Zawr.

  • A bomb explosion has killed at least 13 people in Afghanistan’s eastern city of Jalalabad. Over a dozen people have also been injured. Local officials say the assailant detonated his explosives at the residence of politician Obaidullah Shinwari. The place was full of guests at the time of the blast.

  • Human Rights Watch has urged Pakistan to extend the residency status of Afghan refugees for two more years. The advocacy group says the uncertain residency status has encouraged police harassment, threats, and extortion of Afghan refugees. Pakistan is hosting an estimated one million undocumented Afghans.

  • Israeli extremists have vandalized a noted Church in Jerusalem al-Quds. The extremists painted anti-Christian graffiti on the outer walls of the Dormition Abbey. The graffiti include threats of violence. Israeli police say they’re investigating the incident. Church officials have urged the authorities to protect holy places against vandals.
