A Turkish teenager has stabbed a teacher in southern France, claiming to have acted in the name of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group.

According to Prosecutor Brice Robin, the stabbing assault was carried out in broad daylight on Monday, when the 15-year-old Turkish Kurd, rushing from behind, stabbed the teacher with a machete in Marseille.

The 35-year-old teacher, on his way to work at the Franco-Hebraic Institute, sustained injuries in the shoulder and hand, fending off the assailant, the prosecutor said.

The suspect “has the profile of someone who was radicalized on the Internet,” Robin told a press briefing. “He claimed to have been acting for Daesh.”

“It appears there was a form of premeditation,” Robin said, and the teenager is expected to face charges of “attempted murder on grounds of religion" and “defense of terrorism.”

Prime Minister Manuel Valls of France said in a message posted on Twitter in response to the incident that the attack “in Marseille is revolting.”

In a similar incident back in November, three people claiming to sympathize with Daesh, attacked another teacher with knives, injuring him in the arms, legs and stomach.

France has been in a state of emergency since the deadly terrorist attacks in Paris in November 2015. Daesh claimed the acts of terror.

France has the largest population of the European nationals who have joined the ranks of Daesh in Syria and Iraq.
