Salman Sayyid’s speech on Sharia law

Up to about the 17th century, if you were a poor person, if you were part of a minority, if you were a woman, you would prefer to live under Muslims’ rule than anywhere else in the world. Why was this the case?

One answer is because of Sharia, Islamic principles governing the society. It was based on the separation of powers, therefore it could produced outcomes, which were often critical of the state officials. At the same time, the state was able to intervene and stop corrupt judges or jurists.

What kind of measures do we need to do today to make people feel better among Muslims? We have many resources in our history that we can reactivate.
