Africa’s 2015 of politics: What were the key events?

As we enter 2016, here on Africa Today we’ll take a look back at 2015 to see which key political events took place in the continent and how they may shape what’s to come.

It was the year in which US President Barack Obama visited Kenya and Ethiopia. The visit drew interest and controversy, particularly as many asked whether Africa has ever truly benefited from her engagement with the US.

But as you’ll hear from our guests, it wasn’t just Obama that raised questions in 2015. It was a turbulent year for Africa. Aside from the disturbing and rapid spread of Takfiri terrorism, it was also the year for highly controversial politics in the continent.

Countries in Africa have witnessed heightened tensions over controversial election results, increased protests, worsening economies and deep-rooted social problems spiraling out of control.

Can the passage of time in 2016 help heal some of the problems or will they just continue unchecked? Africa Today asks: What were the key political events in Africa in 2015?
