Yemeni woman, two kids killed in Saudi strike

1. In Yemen, a woman and two children have been killed in fresh Saudi Arabia’s airstrikes in Sa’ada province. Saudi fighter jets also bombed several targets in Sana’a province. Over 7,400 Yemenis, most of them women and children, have been killed in Saudi attacks since March 2015.

2. People in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province are holding ceremonies to mourn the killing of Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr. Saudi authorities have refused to return his body to his family. Nimr is said to have been buried in an undisclosed location. The cleric was executed on Saturday.

3. In Bahrain, people have staged a rally in Sitra Island to condemn the execution of the top Shia cleric by Saudi Arabia. The protesters chanted anti-Riyadh slogans and described the Saudi regime as criminal. Sheikh Nimr was a supporter of the Bahraini revolution that started in February 2011.

4. World leaders, along with the United Nations, have expressed concern over Saudi Arabia and some of its allies’ decision to cut diplomatic ties with Iran. The UK, France, China, the US, Russia and Germany called on Tehran and Riyadh to take firm steps to ease tensions and settle the row.

5. The US says it had warned Saudi Arabia of consequences of the execution of prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr. White House Spokesman Josh Earnest said the US condemns mass executions in any country, adding that Washington is concerned about human rights situation inside Saudi Arabia.

6. The US President has vowed to tighten the gun-control restrictions amid growing shooting incidents across the country. Barack Obama said his plan is consistent with the constitutional right and would potentially save lives. Estimates show that every day about 87 people are killed in shootings in the US.

7. US Federal law enforcement says it seeks to peacefully end the occupation of a wildlife reserve by locals in the state of Oregon. On Saturday, a group of armed protesters and local militia stormed Malheur National Wildlife Refuge headquarters to protest the arrest of two ranchers convicted of arson.

8. A deadly cold snap in Poland has killed at least 21 people over the weekend, with temperatures falling to minus 18 degrees Celsius. Many of the dead are homeless people living in makeshift shelters. Some 40 people have died due to cold in Poland since November 1.
