Rafael Nadal beat David Ferrer 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 to reach the final of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi on Friday.

The 29-year-old Nadal had received a bye to the semi-finals, while Ferrer had to defeat Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to find his way to semis.

After winning the first set 6-3, Nadal broke his fellow countryman in the third game of the second set as errors began to creep into Ferrer's game. David Ferrer had a break point in the sixth game and took full advantage to level at 3-3.

The two players then each exchanged breaks as Ferrer opened a 5-4 lead. Nadal successfully defended one set point in the tenth game. Games went with serve after that and the set was decided by a tie-break. Ferrer broke twice to open up a 5-2 lead, and despite Nadal retrieving one service break, Ferrer leveled the match by taking the second by seven points to six.

Later in the deciding set, Nadal made an early break and went on to lead 3-0 before finally managing to close out a 6-3 6-7, 6-3 victory in two hours 23 minutes to reach the final. Earlier on Friday, Feliciano Lopez finished fifth at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship after beating Kevin Anderson in two tie-break sets.
