US government hypocritical on Islamophobia: US Muslim leader

The US government is hypocritical in tackling Islamophobia, says an Islamic leader in Washington.

The recent resolution by the US House of Representatives in Congress condemning Islamophobia has epitomized Washington’s hypocrisy in addressing the issue, says an American Muslim leader.

According to House Resolution 569, victims of Islamophobic hate crimes have experienced physical, verbal, and emotional abuse because they were followers of Islam or believed to be Muslim.

The resolution, introduced by a group of Democratic Representatives earlier this month, urges the House to express its condolences for those who fall victim to anti-Muslim hate crimes and denounce such attacks "in the strongest terms."

It also calls on the House to recognize that the US Muslim community has made “countless positive contributions to our society.”

“This bill is a simple diversion,” Imam Abdul Alim Musa told Press TV on Thursday. “Because the United States government is totally pro-Zionist and totally anti-Islamic and most of the incidents that happen in the world today are incidents that are engineered by the Zionist forces.”

The Imam of the Masjid al-Islam mosque in Washington explained that Zionists are seeking to justify their long-standing oppression of Muslims through such actions.

He accused American intelligence and law enforcement agencies of engaging in disruptive activities against Muslim communities inside the country.

“Thus far we are suspicious of all of these renderings of freedom and the melting pot in America,” he added.

The imam blasted the legislative branch of the US government, calling it the “Congress of hypocrites” who justify Islamophobia.

“As far as the resolution goes, black Americans have technically full constitutional rights in America, but they are having blacks shot down in the streets [at] unprecedented levels, all their constitutional rights are sidelined, the prisons are full of black people, and they are doing the same things to the Muslims,” he added.

The move comes amid relentless attacks against Muslims by American politicians in the wake of the San Bernardino, California, terrorist attack where two alleged Daesh (ISIL) followers killed 14 people.
