Turkey says its efforts in Iraq not understood

News in Brief

1. Iraqi forces pushing to liberate Ramadi have entered a key central district of the city amid fierce fighting with Daesh. A local security source says Iraqi soldiers are now in the Houze district where government buildings are located. The provincial capital of Anbar province was captured by ISIL in May.

2. Turkey has reacted to the Arab League’s condemnation of its troop deployment in northern Iraq. The Turkish Foreign Ministry says the Arab League’s stance shows it does not fully understand the importance of Ankara’s efforts against ISIL. Baghdad has filed a complaint at the UN calling Turkey’s deployment an incursion.

3. Deputy Commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps says the US is responsible for the wars that broke out in the Middle East and the Muslim world over the past four decades. Brigadier General Esmaeel Salami urged all Muslims to fight for their freedom and religious identity.

4. US Defense Department says it won’t share intelligence on Daesh terrorists in Syria unless Moscow changes its stance on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Russia has been providing the US with information on ISIL since it started a military campaign against terrorist groups in Syria in late September.

5. The Syrian army has seized equipment used by terror groups in the production of chemical and biological weapons in an operation west of the country. Syrian forces have also found a large number of protective masks and filters along with medical supplies and equipment of Turkish, Saudi, and Qatari origins in Lattakia province.

6. 2,000 terrorists fighting in Syria are set to leave southern Damascus following a landmark ceasefire deal with the government. 4,000 people, half of them members of Daesh and the al-Nusra Front, have started leaving three districts to be relocated to terrorist-held cities of Raqa and Marea in northern Syria.

7. Israeli forces have shot dead one more Palestinian in the occupied territories. The shooting happened in east Jerusalem al-Quds. Tel Aviv claims the Palestinian man was going to stab an Israeli soldier. On Friday, Israeli troops killed two other Palestinians in the West Bank city of Ramallah and east of Gaza City.

8. People have staged a protest in the Pakistani city of Lahore to show anger at the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narenda Modi to their country. The demonstrators called on Islamabad not to patch up ties with its neighbor. They demanded an end to what they called Delhi’s domination over the restive Kashmir region.
