Syrian government forces have inflicted heavy losses on the Takfiri militants during large-scale mop-up operations across the Arab country.

Syrian military aircraft pounded on Saturday a position of the Ahrar al-Sham militant group in the Atshan village in the Hama province, destroying terrorist hideouts there, the official SANA news agency reported.

Army forces also fired a barrage of artillery rounds at the al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front strongholds and other Takfiri outfits in the al-Lataminah village in Hama, leaving scores of extremists dead.

A military source said army soldiers repelled an assault by Nusra Front terrorists on the Bashkoi village in the Aleppo province on Friday night. Scores of extremists were killed and seven battle tanks were destroyed.

Separately, Syrian troops stormed Daesh strongholds in the villages of al-Hadath and Um Kadoum as well as Mahin town in the central province of Homs, killing dozens of the terrorists. Syrian soldiers also purged Mahin of Daesh Takfiris.

In the al-Zaafaraniyah village and the towns of Teir Maalah, Wadi al-Khanazeir and Talbiseh in Homs Province, Syrian fighter jets carried out strikes against Nusra Front bases. Scores of terrorists were killed and a considerable amount of their arms and munitions was destroyed.

Elsewhere in the western coastal province of Latakia, government troops backed by fighters from popular defense groups established full control over the towns of Rewaysat al-Aouda and Rewaysat al-Harami.

Deadly militant attack

In Aleppo, at least five people were killed in a rocket attack launched by foreign-sponsored Takfiri militants against a residential area.

Local officials said five civilians lost their lives and several others were injured when several rockets fired by militants struck an area in the town of al-Zahra’a.

The projectiles also caused damage to a number of houses and buildings in the area.

The conflict in Syria, which flared in March 2011, has claimed the lives of more than 250,000 people and left over one million injured, according to the United Nations.

The world body says 12.2 million people, including more than 5.6 million children, remain in need of humanitarian assistance in Syria. The foreign-sponsored militancy has also displaced 7.6 million people.
