Tariq Ramadan’s speech on challenge of migration (Part II)

Tariq Ramadan criticizes the terminology of political and economic migration, as asylum seekers have been classified as economic, political, legal and illegal.

He believes this is a trap and emanates from the arrogant viewpoints of the Global North. He asks why taking the resources of people, from Global North asylum seekers to the South, is perceived as no problem, why the migration of the rich is seen as positive, and of the poor negative. Is the wealth of the Global North in danger? This is criminalization against humanity.

In Islam people have the right to move, have the right to know. They have to question the rules and their principles. This is not the authority of their country, but the authority of their principles. They have to challenge their country in the name of their principles and not the way around.
