Iran, Russia don’t differ on Syria: Amir-Abdollahian
Iran has rejected reports by certain Western media alleging that the country has differences with Russia on the issue of Syria.
“There is no disagreement between Iran and Russia with regard to Syria,” Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Sunday. “The two countries diligently assist the Syrian army in its fight against terrorism.”
Iran has sent military advisors to Syria to provide assistance to the Arab country in the fight against the terrorists operating there.
“Iran’s military advisors ceaselessly continue their efforts toward fighting terrorism,” Amir-Abdollahian said.
Russia has also been conducting airstrikes against terrorist positions in Syria since September 30, upon a request from Damascus.
Commenting on the Russian mission, Amir-Abdollahian said, “Moscow’s measures are taken to fight terrorism in Syria and are coordinated with the government in Damascus and are assessed as positive.”
Damascus has confirmed that since the beginning of the Russian campaign, terrorists have begun to retreat.
The foreign-sponsored conflict in Syria has thus far claimed the lives of more than 250,000 people and left over one million injured, according to the United Nations (UN).
Since last year, the United States and its allies have been targeting what they allege to be the positions of the Takfiri Daesh terrorist group in Syria without any authorization from Damascus or a UN mandate. Unlike the Russian campaign, the US-led one has fallen severely short of dislodging the terrorists.
