Press TV has interviewed Judith Bello, co-founder of the Upstate Drone Action from Rochester, New York, and Michael Lane, founder of the American Institute for Foreign Policy from Washington, on the United States’ expansion of its drone program.

“What the United States has created with its global war [on] terror is a situation where all of the battles are taking place in civilian areas, in places where there is no way to know whether or not someone is a militant,” Bello said.

“Drones are really for policing,” Bello said, adding that “when you hunt down a criminal, it’s a policing action not a military action.”

“The United States is using the drones in a way to change international law more to their liking and to give themselves more power to have this unconventional warfare; and a whole bunch of new laws in international law have been formulated within the United States but it hasn’t been agreed on… by all of the countries in the world.”

“The drones are used to violate the sovereignty of other countries,” Bello stated.

“The US has a deliberate intention to cause chaos,” the political commentator said, adding that the American authorities “continue to strike anyone, anywhere” without having even good intelligence.

Lane, for his part, said the United States has stated that the country is fighting a “militant terrorist network” that seeks to “exact damage” on Americans. Therefore, Washington is entitled to pound the hideouts of its enemies to avoid terrorist attacks, he said.
