Press TV has interviewed Mark Glenn, a political commentator in Idaho, to discuss the remarks made by Russia’s Foreign Ministry Sergei Lavrov on the difference among global powers on the lists of the Syrian opposition and terrorist groups.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: No one can seem to agree on who is a terrorist and who is “safe,” I guess , for a lack of a better word. What is then the point of all these talks?

Glenn: The point of it is to demonstrate that it is not just having a powerful military or a powerful economy that drives worlds’ events. You can have a very powerful military, very powerful economy, but if you do not have control of the diplomatic and the political process, then it is impossible for a country, any country, irrespective of whatever power it may have, it is impossible for them to maneuver in the world and to consolidate world opinion in such a way that they can move easily.

Now the obvious purpose of this right now is that Russia is winning the diplomatic war and the war on public perception with regards to what is going on in Syria because the United States has been unable to paint Russia and Vladimir Putin as the aggressors in this and that they are not doing the world a favor by going in and wiping out these terrorists. Because of this, the United States is having a very difficult time, not just the United States but the West in general having very difficult time, trying to maneuver around the favorable public perception that Russia and Vladimir Putin have won for themselves.

Press TV: Indeed as you correctly there said, obviously Russia has been calling out the US on its role recently and quite harshly of recent, using its loudspeaker, its media, etc. towards that purpose. So I am wondering if it is making the US uncomfortable, then are we going to see a change in US policy?

Glenn: What we are going to see is that the United States is going to do something desperate in order to reverse what has up to this point been a very positive public perception for Russia and for Vladimir Putin.

It is easy to predict these things. The United States and the West have mastered the use of false flag events in order to change public perception in their favor and so all that needs to be done at this point is for an American or Western military asset to be attacked with loss of lives such as what we saw took place just a month or so ago with the downing of the Russian jet by the Turks.

They have reversed that in order to paint the Russians as the aggressors in order to change public perception in their favor and of course this underscores how very serious the situation here is because I do believe that in some fashion the West, the United States and the West, they have worked out some type of idea within their minds so that they can engage with the Russians even militarily, short of a nuclear exchange and this is very dangerous because what it reveals is that we are not dealing with a rational player here when we are dealing with the United States and the West to the point where they are willing to poke a stick at this giant bear and expect that nothing untoward is going to come out of it.
