Press TV has conducted an interview with Tony Gosling, an investigative journalist from Bristol, on a potential cooperation between Pakistan and Iran to combat extremism and terrorism.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: Iran’s foreign minister is in Pakistan and of course we can’t forget Pakistan in terms of terrorist threat that perhaps comes from that country one way or another. When there’s a terrorist threat that Iran’s foreign minister is talking about that part of the world is very prone to it. Can there be cooperation to be expected between Iran and Pakistan to eliminate these terrorists?

Gosling: Well, let’s hope so. I mean actually Pakistan is almost like it’s been under attack by the West and by the influence in Pakistan really through the ISI - the secret intelligence service in Pakistan – for a long long time.

It’s like almost the untold victim of Islamophobia from Western intelligence services with the incredible episode of Raymond Davis.

This guy was arrested by the Pakistani police turned out to he was working for a CIA contractor supplying weapons to the extremists there.

This is a country that there has been an attempt from Israel and NATO to destabilize.

So, it’s a very good country to be talking about this, but let’s hope, that talking about it what’s at all, because there’s been an immense amount of interference behind the scenes in Pakistan’s politics not least with the assassination of Benazir Bhutto of course.

But the great thing, I think, today is the way here in terrorism and extremism being talked about alongside drugs.

The drugs problem is a massive really ever since George Herbert Walker Bush that’s the George Bush ... father when he was the president in the United States, he pardoned Oliver North and the Iran-Contra criminals.

What they were doing was they were using drug money and they were using US military aircraft and US personnel fly drugs around for black operations and such stuff, which is off the budget.

So, the Pentagon even didn’t necessarily enough about it. Certainly, the Congress and the Senate didn’t know about how this money was being used.

And they turn this into a massive slush fund now, because Oliver North was pardoned and they weren’t jailed.

This slush fund is used for all sorts of black operations, paying mercenaries, paying private military companies right across the world to destabilize.

And that’s the failure to deal with, the failure to actually institute the rule of law in the West. It’s why we’re in the situation, we are today where we are sleepwalking into World War III in Syria.
