At least one security officer has been killed and several others have been injured in a trap bomb explosion in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan & Baluchestan.

Brigadier General Hossein Rahimi, the provincial police chief, said on Wednesday that the officer lost his life when a bomb exploded in the Ahouran district of Nikshahr city.

He did not provide further details on the incident but said that an investigation was underway to identify and arrest those behind the explosion.

On Sunday, Iranian security forces discovered and defused a bomb weighing nearly 21 kilograms in Sistan & Baluchestan Province.

Rahimi said the bomb was found on Iranshahr-Sarbaz road in the southeastern province.

He added that following local people’s report, a group of military forces was sent to Iranshahr, where they managed to find and defuse the bomb successfully.

Iran’s Intelligence Ministry said on November 21 that the country's security forces had disbanded two terror cells, which were planning to carry out bomb attacks in two provinces.

Officials at the ministry said that one of the terrorist groups was busted in the southeastern province of Sistan & Baluchestan.

The terrorists were planning to blow up over 150 kilograms of explosives in the form of ten bombs on the eastern Iranian border region.
