Press TV has conducted an interview with Marcelo Sanchez, a political commentator, in Tehran, and Jose Sueiro, a political analyst, in Washington, to discuss the victory of Venezuela’s opposition in the country’s congressional elections and its consequences for President Nicholas Maduro’s government.

Sanches says that the opposition factions capitalized “on the current circumstances” of the Venezuelan economy and took advantage of the social situation and “probably a little bit of tiredness” in the financial system in Venezuela.

He says some analysts accuse the government of President Nicolas Maduro of “distancing from the original politics of his predecessor Hugo Chavez.” He says, however, that the opposition parties do not seem to be representative of the majority of Venzuelans, but are the “political and economic elite.”

Some of Venezuelan expatriates who are living in the United States are supporting Venezuela’s opposition parties to portray a bad political and economic picture in the Latin American country, Sanches says.

Sueiro, for his part, says, there is “no doubt that the economic situation in the country has caused a great deal of dissatisfaction across the board.” He says the “business climate in Venezuela has been so negative” that many financial and business activists migrated from their homeland.
