Obama not serious in fight against Daesh: Analyst

Press TV has interviewed Mike Harris, editor of Veterans Today in Oregon, to discuss the remarks made by US President Barack Obama, saying Washington will boost its Special Operations Forces in Iraq and Syria as part of a strategy to fight against Daesh terrorists.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: I am wondering how do you feel about President Obama essentially saying that we are going to go into Syria and Iraq regardless of what those countries’ governments think?

Harris: Well I think President Obama is giving the same platitude as ever about terrorism. And to violate other countries sovereignty in pursuit of a terrorist organization that many people suspect that some elements within the US government are actually supporting is kind of foolish.

If you look at who Daesh is, who ISIL is, this organization was created by foreign intelligence agencies. The Turks are involved, the US is involved, Israel is involved, the Saudis are involved and if Obama was serious about doing this, he would cooperate with the Syrian government, not try to bypass the Syrian government, he would cooperate with the Iraqi government, not try to bypass the Iraqi government and he would cooperate with the Russian effort that is being so highly effective in disrupting the ISIS, Daesh initiatives within Syria and Iraq.

Press TV: At this point then, when we talk about terrorism and Daesh, will the US efforts be any more successful that they have been in the past because certainly  the US has tried this before in the ”war on terror” which still continues?

Harris: Well it should be obvious to everyone that US efforts have been lip service. These are not sincere efforts to [root] out terrorists. The US has been going through the motions, they say they are doing the job but they are not. You have to understand there are elements within the US military, there are elements within the US intelligence communities which actually support Daesh, which actually support ISIL and the game here is to go in and Assad strip Syria and Iraq from natural resources, artifacts, a number of things and to depose the secular governments that are duly elected by the Syrian people namely President Bashar al-Assad.

They want him gone for what reason I do not know. He is a marvelous leader. He has done a good job for his country. Why do they want to depose him, I cannot understand, but if the US was sincere and they are not. And the other thing that becomes obvious about this is Mr. Obama is not commander-in-chief. The military is not following his orders. He is getting pressured from the military to allow these things to happen. These are not his initiatives. This is not what he is doing. He is being pressured into these things. Someone else is running the government. I suspect it is Senator John McCain, Chairman of the Armed Services Committee in the Senate.
