Met police arrest 4 over terrorism offences

Met police arrests four men suspicious of terrorism offences.

UK police have arrested four men on suspicion of terrorism offences.

The men all in their 30s are from Luton. They were arrested on suspicion of being involved in preparation of act of terrorism.

The men are now held at a London police station. Police is now searching other areas in Luton.

Police said the arrests are not connected to last month's attacks in Paris.

Media reports described the arrest as "quite significant".

The arrests were carried out in a joint operation by the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command and the Eastern Counter Terrorism and Intelligence Unit.

In another development, a police chief has said that firearms officers called to tackle terrorist gunmen have been ordered to ignore the injured and dying in the event of a UK attack and instead race towards the threat to try to minimize the total number of casualties in such a situation.

Police in the UK remain on a heightened state of alert following the terror attacks in Paris last month. They have appealed for the public to remain vigilant.

On Tuesday, the staff at the state-funded BBC's headquarters and surrounding buildings in central London were been evacuated briefly due to a suspicious vehicle.

The Metropolitan Police said the alert, which is now over, was not specific to the BBC, and related to a vehicle parked on nearby Regent's Street.
