Russia arms SU-34 warplanes in Syria with air-to-air missiles

1. An Israeli court has suspended the conviction of a key suspect in the murder of a Palestinian teenager back in 2014. His conviction was suspended on the grounds of his mental health. Yosef Ben David had earlier admitted to kidnapping, assaulting, and burning alive of Muhammad Abu Khdeir.

2. Russia has armed its SU-34 bomber jets, which are targeting Daesh positions in Syria, with air-to-air missiles for the first time. The missiles can hit air targets at a distance of up to 60 kilometers. This comes after Turkey downed a Russian jet operating in Syria on November 24.

3. Russia's President Putin has snubbed overtures from Turkish President Erdogan for face-to-face talks. The two leaders are currently in Paris for climate change negotiations. Ties between Ankara and Moscow deteriorated after Turkey shot down a Russian plane on Syria's border last Tuesday. Turkey has refused to apologize for the incident.

4. At least four Yemenis have been killed in fresh Saudi airstrikes on a residential area in Ibb province. Saudi Arabia’s relentless attacks have also left a child dead in Ta'izz province. More than 7,200 people have been killed in Saudi Arabia's war on Yemen since March 26.

5. Three Emirati soldiers and two Sudanese mercenaries have been killed after their convoy hit a roadside bomb in the Yemeni province of Lahij. A number of other soldiers were also injured in the incident. The foreign troops are part of the Saudi-backed campaign against Yemeni people and army.

6. Millions of pilgrims are pouring into the holy city of Karbala in Iraq to commemorate Arba’een. The occasion marks forty days after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein, the third Shia Imam. Security has been beefed up in and around the city to prevent possible terrorist attacks.

7. British Prime Minister David Cameron has agreed to hold a parliamentary debate on Wednesday over the country’s plan to launch airstrikes in Syria. The decision comes after Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn urged the government not to rush to a war, demanding a parliamentary debate on the matter.

8. At least 30 people have been killed in clashes between the army and Ugandan rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Clashes broke out in the eastern town of Eringeti when the rebels attacked a military headquarters. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon condemned the violence.
