Trump a litmus test that exposes US toxic underbelly: Analyst

Donald Trump’s “idiocy has already been fully discredited,” said Grossman.

Donald Trump’s presidential campaign is a “litmus test” that has exposed the “bigoted” and “toxic underbelly” of the American political and social structure, says a political analyst.

“The Trump campaign team is quite clearly staking his chances on their faith that tapping America’s bigoted underbelly may just be enough to see Trump snatch the presidency from Obama’s anointed heir. With that in mind, he is prepped by his sycophantic team every day with as many offensive sound bites or, if you prefer, Trumpettes, as he can spew during his campaign appearances,” Barry Grossman, an international lawyer, told Press TV on Sunday.

“The constituency he appeals to is of course very significant but as amoral as the US has become, there is very little or no chance of Trump winning the election and I can only imagine that the Clintons now retire to their respective separate beds each night with a huge smile on their faces, while other Democratic contenders like Bernie Sanders, despite enjoying widespread grassroots support, wonder just what, short of bowing out of the race, they must do to get any mainstream media to take some notice of their campaign efforts and policy statements,” Grossman noted.

“Truth and accuracy no longer have anything to do with campaign pledges so it is odd that right-thinking Americans expect Trump to abide by a code of election conduct which more polished candidates already abandoned long ago,” he added.

“In any case, it is difficult not to laugh at the hypocrisy of Americans, the corporate press and the political establishment, as they all ridicule Trump for his oafish, bigoted statements which in reality not only resonate deeply with the GOP grassroots but also almost perfectly reflect the longstanding US government and private sector policy agenda towards both the Islamic and the so-called developing world,” Grossman stated.

The analyst was commenting on unsubstantiated remarks by Trump that not only (as claimed previously) Arab Muslims in New Jersey cheered the September 11, 2001 attacks, but Muslims across the world celebrated the fall of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center.

On Saturday, the leading Republican candidate said “worldwide, the Muslims were absolutely going wild.”

“As for Trump’s claims about the attitude of Muslims on 9/11, what is there to say? His idiocy has already been fully discredited,” Grossman said.

“Indeed, whatever actually happened on that day and whatever anomalous response a designated clown like Trump may choose to focus on, the one indisputable reality is that on that day, the entire world - including the Islamic world and even America’s traditional enemies – all stood together in shock and in that moment overwhelmingly empathized with Americans,” he added.

“Unfortunately, the opportunity for genuine progress presented by the tragedy of 9/11 had already been anticipated by the titans of industry and the Neoconservatives who controlled US foreign policy as well as the then incumbent caretaker occupying the White House. Even before the events of that terrible day, they had already set upon an irreversible course of action which squandered the unprecedented opportunity created by the almost universal empathy and goodwill felt on that day, opting instead to steer the world into an amoral but, for some, highly profitable downward spiral into hate, intolerance and uncontrolled aggression,” he continued.

Grossman went on to say that “Trump has never been enough of a player on any level to have been any part of that process as it played out. He is nothing if not a product of it.”

“That said, we should all be grateful to Trump and to his pal Bill Clinton for urging him to seek the GOP nomination, since it has been a very long time since we have been treated with such a clear litmus test of the collective US character. Trump is a lightweight; a piece of litmus paper that exposes America’s toxic underbelly. Every time he is dipped in the US political process, he comes up either deep blue indicating an environment infected with Zionism and tainted by foul smelling ammonia like substances, or deep red indicating the acidic nature of the current US collective,” he concluded.
