Iran women’s national futsal team has sustained its second group stage defeat at the 2015 Women’s Futsal World Tournament in Guatemala, going down to the strong Brazilian side.

The Iranian squad, comprised of Nasimeh Gholami, Fereshteh Karimi, Farzaneh Tavasoli, Naghmeh Moradi, Sepideh Zarrinrad, Niloufar Ardalani, Sahar Papi, Zohreh Meysami, Soheila Malmouli, Tahereh Mahdipour, Fatemeh Etedadi, Azam Akhoundi, Sarah Shirbeigi and Fahimeh Zarei, lost out to the defending champion 6-0 in a game held at the Domo Polideportivo de la CDAG, known commonly as Domo de la Zona 13, multi-purpose arena in Guatemala City on Thursday.

Iranian female futsal players conceded four goals during the first half of the match, and gave away two more in the second period.

The loss means Iran cannot progress to the quarterfinals, as the first two teams in each group can make it into the knockout stage. Brazil currently sits in the top Group A spot, and is followed by Portugal.

Iran women’s national futsal team opened the 2015 Women’s Futsal World Tournament with a 1-3 loss to Portugal on Wednesday.

“We were completely exhausted from the 85-hour trip. We started very well, but as the game went by we just didn’t have that energy,” Iranian women’s national futsal team coach Forouzan Soleymani said after the match.

The Iranian outfit is slated to encounter Costa Rica in its third group match late on Thursday.

Iran has been drawn in Group A along with Brazil, Costa Rica and Portugal. Group B consists of Guatemala, Japan, Russia and Spain.

The 2015 Women’s Futsal World Tournament opened in Guatemala City, Guatemala, on November 24 and will conclude on November 29.
